Yea with this 10-part series it's based off the lives of certain Marines, showing them from recruitment till after the war. I've watched all the HBO clips for it and it looks good. Starts playing on HBO on Sunday I believe. I'm sure it will be as good as BoB or better!

I already pissed my wife off because i told her how the series will go . You guys might get an idea of what will happen in each episode if you have read a few books about the PTO. It could be a great series if they don't f**k it up like they did with BoB.

Looks awesome though.

Actually Tom Hanks has spoken openly about how they are trying to accurately depict the racial hatred that both the Japanese and Americans had for one another and the "gloves off" brutality of the PTO. I'm betting it will be better than BoB.

This sounds like its going to be an awesome series, The PTO is my favorite part of WWII because of the brutal fighting and the inch to inch fighting.

No,looks awesome.I look forward to seeing Basilone take out an entire Jap company. My Dad was on Guadalcanal and I remember him mentioning him now and again. I just wish he was still here to see it..

There no doubt were some shortcomings with BoB but I sure wouldn't describe it as All F**ked up?? I thought it was one of the better TV war dramas and found it extremely well done. They certainly made a greater effort to get it right than most Hollywood endeavors.
The horrors of the Pacific might be seen as too over the top for most folks

The horrors of the Pacific might be seen as too over the top for most folks I was wondering about that, how far they are going to go to show how brutal those battles were. Hopfully they do a good job with this, I'm sure they will.

I hope they go far in showing the horrors, to show the viewers how horrible the PTO was, and what our soldiers did/went through for this country.

well i just watch the first episiode of the pacific and overall they did an okay job i do like how they deplicked the trigger happy marines once they had landed on guatalcanal and the way they deplicted the the naval battle of savo island, but i have found 4 things that are not historically correct so far, here that are:
1.no primers in the belted .30cal ammo 2.the marines only have o3a3s (WHY? mid war gun they should have straight o3s!!!) 3.swivel bale helmets(on guatalcanal they didnt come out till late 44!) 4. weapons control ( i saw one guy holding an o3a3 as a m4 on patrol with trigger finger at the ready they need to be way more lax)
so this is what i have found what is wrong so far with the series but some of these were exspected like the swivel bales but in the end it looks like a great series

It's a patrol in enemy territory , on an island that is full of the enemy , no one is going to be "way more lax" .

I don't think the 03a3s and swivel bales are going to make this any less good. These small things don't really take away from the series in my opinion.

The 03's we won't see very much more anyway since I believe they were issued Garands after Guadalcanal.

I'm not happy with HBO Asia Well, now you know how we feel in the States when you have first crack at new airsoft wonders. How does it feel when the foot is on the other shoe? Here is a consolation prize. Alban put together some old footage and while it isn't PTO, use your imagination. Alban is as good as Spielberg in my opinion. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Yu9zaAs5T8I don't get HBO so I'm in the same boat as you kalbs despite my bluster. I figure I'll get to see it someday.

I was really happy they included the Battle of Salvo Island. I thought it was pretty rad. Of course we got are butts kicked pretty bad in the naval battles at Guadalcanal. Some really bruatal stuff off shore as well.
One of the things I thought was a little odd was them all standing on the beach watching the Japanese Navy cruise by. Why would you stand out in the open like that and let the ships about to land enemy troops see exactly where you are.
I also really liked the part where they found the US flag in the Japanese guy's bag... and then the personal items a second later. It was a good way of showing both sides of the coin... one second you're like yeah, kill them all for hurting us... then there is something there to remind you that the enemy is still human beings. A good part effect for sure.

The Japs were brutal, and feel no remorse for what they did to this day. Sure they were brutal, but that was their Shinto warrior ethos showing through which was simply differed from ours. Were they worse for being 100% pure in their view of killing and violence? I think it's the western paradox of shooting at somebody one minute and sharing a cigarette with them the next minute that makes less sense in some ways. Just food for thought.

the WW2 japanese were crude, stubborn, racist, expansionist, arrogant, and mass murderers on a level we never imagined. Today we still have a hard time comming to terms with just how bad they were. I regularly reflect on how glad I am we defeated them, and I feel no regret for the way inwhich we acheived our victory.
Today's japan is a product of american reconstruction, and Im a total dork for anime, airsoft guns, model kits, radio control, and just about everything else Japanese accept sushi! To say I love them now is an understatment! -Gordak

Looks to be a great miniseries. The part where they shot at that unarmed japanese soldierkind of got to me, but after seeing what they did I probably would have too. Wasnt sure if it was a spoiler I put so I made it white so highlight it if you want to see it.
