I've located a gunsmith with a copy lathe who is willing to do a run of PPsh41 stocks for me, pre-inletted to accept a ver. 7 gearbox and battery. This means that my PaPaShas will have real hardwood stocks instead of fiberglass ones! More soon....

Yo that shotgun in the pic is a UTG M87SA so you really got a deal! That's no knock off like on the box. It says it's a Double Eagle. UTG is a better brand. Very nice job on keeping the adjustable hop-up showing!

Paul, do you know any sources for upgrade springs for the UTG shotguns?

What did you do to get the exact shape of the stock from the 2x8?
Did you have schematics or something?

Paul, do you know any sources for upgrade springs for the UTG shotguns? Well, unfortunately no. If you got the Ver. 3 of the UTG your in luck. The Ver. 2 and 1 wont last you 2 months, but the Ver. 3 is a heck of a lot better. I've heard of people putting a spacer the Ver. 3 spring, right where the spring meets the plastic. That is said to up your fps by about 30 depending on how big your spacer is. But there are no "upgrades" to speak of for UTG's. In fact the UTG brand is made in China (Big alarm) so i would stay away from them IF POSSIBLE. The Ver. 3 is good, don't get me wrong. Plus this is obviously better than those Double Eagle and Well brand guns, but if you can get a Tokyo Marui or a Classic Army, hack of the dough and buy it. But UTG is about the best brand for cheap Shotguns... Even though they are not good. But there getting better. Hope this helps, ~Paul

Godo, I laid my real steel Mosin-Nagant on a sheet of freezer paper and carefully traced its outline; then did the same for the shottie action; then taped the two in layers to my sliding glass patio door so I could use the door like a giant lightbox, allowing me to see how the two would mate; finally, I taped a third sheet of freezer paper over the first two and drew the modifications I would need to make to the shape of the stock in order to fit the shottie action. The Mk 2 mod I'm messing with will eliminate the cocking arm on the front of the receiver, and will allow the stock to be virtually identical to the cross-section of the real ones. I'll post pics as soon as my schedule gives me a little time to fire up the welder and grinder, and finish fabbing that new cocking arm (I haven't forgotten you, dookieboy.)
Paul, when I finally got around to cracking open the receiver of one of my shotties and looked at the internals, I was surprised at just how sturdy the cylinder and piston looked. They look to be cast from a good, dense tool-grade nylon. I'll try shimming the spring. My M38 shoots at around 270fps with .20 g BBS, so 30 or so fps more would be appreciated. Thanks for the tip!

See, this is why I'm not an Engineer-type like you guys When I read that statement I just scratch my head and think "Tool-Grade Nylon?" They make tools out of nylon?!?! ;D Slainte!

LOL, Guinness! Not all petro-plastics are equal. Styrene and polyester are brittle, polyethylene and ABS are soft, epoxy is expensive and has chemical stability issues, polyurethanes and acrylics are great but relatively new and pricey, but nylon is a real workhorse. It's tough, light, easily machined, chemically inert, and can be injection-molded. Not only tools, they make replacement BODY PARTS out of nylon now - artificial limbs, hip joint linings, heart valves, skull plates, shunts, meshes, all sorts of "bionic man" stuff. A couple of my buddies must be about 20% stainless steel and nylon by volume now. Some nylons are impregnated with lubricants for use as slide beds on various robotic systems and machine tools; while other nylons are engineered for toughness and are used for gears, switch components, pistons and cylinders, and other places where lightness and durability are needed at a relatively low cost. Restaurant kitchens are packed full of food-grade nylon products.
