What is the market here for mosins are they a pretty wanted item, or is there just no demand for them.?

Well with the zeta labs offering I don't see much of a custom market I delivered my last one just before the zeta labs released carbine.

Dont zeta labs suck. I mean I haven't heard much about them but WGC is only making them at 300 fps. What if I could make a costome that shot 410 and used a real stock and barrel for only $300 - $350 think that would attract some buyers?

Well I have heard great things about the zeta check the forums there was a review here I think. I used to make the customs but not for that price you might get some buyers but you want to post some pics of a finished gun so they know what to expect.

if you wanted to make a bolt action make something no official company has ever made... a 1903 springfield... or lee enfield!

hairy apple made a custom 1903 for 200, the KTW even though made should be replaced because they suck like the marushin m1 but are way too expensive

Yes but seeing that i can buy a real mosin for only80 bucks at my local J&G sales and a 410 fps rifle from evike for 100 bucks i could sell a very nice looking ( real) mosin that has good proformance wouldnt someone like to buy that for lets say $400-$500 instead of paying 400 for a crappy one or paying $1000 for the nice ones

Again you no longer have a real market in the "I'm cheaper sector" at 400-500.00 The Zeta is going to look better and perform pretty close to what yours will. A halfway decent 1903 custom should and does run 700.00-1300.00. The parts cost this or that doesn't take into consideration time and talent put into the gun. Custom gun building is not a lucrative honey pot of money I assure you but you are welcome to and I applaud those others that choose to get into it.

Yea you can buy a real Mosin for around $100 and a JG BAR-10 for about a $100. You must count all the hours your going to waste your time making them though. Real mosins stocks and parts would be a pain to cut through. As you said if you actually want it to be somewhat worthwhile your going to have to charge like $400-$500. By that time your $150 under the Zeta Labs version, which would out do your conversion because of its solid internals. The BAR-10 may have higher fps, however the internals are sub par.
I was doing the custom airsoft business thing and I soon shut down as it wasn't worth my time. I still do them occasionally and will sell them to friends, but as an actual business it is pretty unrealistic. That said there is a market for them if you would like to try your luck.

Yea I'd encourage you to do a custom. It will give you the feel of how much work you have to put into it, if you haven't done anything like this before. Feel free to ask any questions if your confused with anything. Make sure to ask before you disregard any internals. I made the mistake of throwing out these plastic rings that looked useless. Ended up the rifle wouldn't work without them . Anyways good luck and God bless!

remrat I am about 90% into a Mosin Nagant airsoft and if you can figure a way to make money building these things more power to you. I have built several rifles (real) and this thing is the most cantankerous nerve racking thing I have ever built. I do more studying on what I am going to do next than I do actual work. Not wanting to cut the trigger assembly I have had to shorten the mag and not wanting the mag to sink into the stock I have had to make it taller. If I wern't so stubborn I would probably do better to toss it into the trash and save the wear on my nerves. I saw where a Russian fellow built one of these and made the bolt turn with the bolt handle, so when I get done cursing the stock that will be my next attempt. In addition to all this you have to contend with a factory made Mosin that will look as good, if not better, than we can do by hand. As was suggested in an earlier post, do yourself a favor and if you are going to try to make money at this you would do better to make a Springfield. I have a Springfield demill that I am going to make into an airsoft and now I almost hate that I bought it. Hey!!! Wanna buy a Springfield???

These things are really easy to do in your head and really time consuming to do in person. You will note that everyone who decides to make a business out of it decide quite quickly to drop the idea. Often with unhappy customers in the process. You'll make more money per hour working at macDonalds with no out of pocket expenses up front and far fewer headachs.

I found several threads on different sites and different people went different ways to reach the same end. I thought I had picked the "perfect" way by picking and choosing from the various projects for my attempt. I quickly found that there are so many variables that your project will become your "own" in no time at all

If I was able to make 10% of the projects I've thought up I'd be a freaking Leonardo da Vinci ;D

You are off to a great start. Let me ask a couple of questions. Are you going to make your bolt actually work like the real gun? How are you going to fit the airgun mag into the rifle without cutting your real gun mag?

I made my own Mosin Nagant, but used the only spring sniper on hand, a well l96. It turned out alright, but the magazine was not flush with the stock at all. I wish I had used a Bar10 or a M700, due to the more detail on the bolt, and the better magazine location.

what are your plans for the bolt, or are you going to leave it like that? Personally I like that bolt design from the bar 10, it's just unrealistic
