ok...here i go...my story..lol.... as a person that has been running around in HBTs and with a thompson for over five years now,i know just how much interest there has been in the idea of WW2 airsoft before BOB came out.... LITTLE OR NONE....i'm certain Sam can back me up on this...i remember posting stuff about the subject on the old airsoft zone forums and xring and getting no responses whatsoever...other than "all that old crap is sooooo GAY!!!!!" hey, that sounds familiar... personally,i spent years playing locally and not going to major events because my uniform and equipment did not fit into their requirements...getting the "hey ,that old stuff looks alright ,but its not as good as my new blackhawk vest..." crap from people standing there in digitals, tennis shoes and/or realtree camo.hell,we even had one kid that insisted on covering his P90 in the realtree bow tape so it would match the outfit he played in.but ,i had lots of fun and played anyway and met alot of good people.i understand from these forums that at one game that was done up there, the problem arose of people participating in modern gear "ruining the feel" of the event.i agree.the same problem arose here.so many airsofters have said to me that they would love to try WW2 but after spending $$$$ of the all the newest gear and crye multicams they don't want an outfit that they can only use at an occasional game.that was one of the reasons that we (the GA group) voted to have looser uniform restrictions in order to give people more leeway if they have only a basic interest in the time period.our first event had very loose uniform restrictions and we still had over 80 people come out.the upcoming event in feb has somewhat tighter requirements but still 65 people are signed up for that.i ,as well as others here, would rather have 30 people coming at me that look like germans at a basic level than 3 period correct guys.i agree with the statement that WW2 airsoft as a whole is at the same place that reeacting was in the late 70's early 80's but it wont grow unless people are brought in gradually.right now ,the reenactment community is getting smaller while the airsoft community is getting larger.as one of the socalled 20 foot guys,i'm perfectly happy working at turning airsofters into WW2 styled players.this way they may develop an interest in the time period which may lead them to further research, better uniforms, etc.and if they only wear a basic outfit for a few games a year then so be it.the reenactors of the group have to remember that alot of people coming into "themed" airsoft are coming from "themed" paintball events where the standards for the look are pretty low compared to reenacting.the attitude displayed by 3rdID is the same attitude i got when i first got interested in reenacting."what?you only have a a hbt hat, shirt and some web gear?..lol...don't waste our time...lol...nice toy gun, by the way...".when i had the real WW2 vets that i dealt with everyday at work being the only people who actively encouraged me to keep up the WW2 look in my sport.they were the ones that told me about how i should be wearing my gear and how best to use the thompson in different positions ,etc. as well as giving me a wealth of information from their own personal experiences of the war.it was out of respect for their service that i went with a FUSAG unit as my unit choice instead of a real one.just my choice, but not one i would try and force on others.i noticed that some of the players in the Pac. NW also chose a FUSAG unit, but have never heard why. all in all, the boards here have become a clearing house for info on WW2 stuff in general and i would like to see it stay that way,but its up to the people that run the joint ,so to speak.i have a met a few people that have already said "well i updraded my outfit because i saw it wasn't as good as some of the guys on WW2AA".so it will just take time..and effort..to get more folks interested at a higher level.
sorry dan ,didn't know we were done..lol....took to long writing this...

I'm not an Airsoft guy. Unfortunately, I am "Tractor's" Squad Leader, which is why I'm posting. On behalf of my unit, I'd like to apologize for what has gone on here. For those of you who ever watched "Full Metal Jacket"(I know, I know: not WW2 in the slightest), we've had a little "discussion," the email equivalent of "stepping behind the barracks." I'm sorry about the negative posts, the flaming, and the insults. What came out here, purportedly on behalf of "reenactors," was way out of line. Again, I'm sorry. Believe it or not, we're not a$$holes, and we enjoy helping prospective members, and new members, develop their impressions. What we do is much different than Airsoft (which I admit, sure looks like fun), but I can assure you, we're not going to "throw" people out of events, and we're not a bunch of elitists (at least the Allied reenactors.... don't get me started on Krauts ). You folks have a good day. And shoot me an email at the above address, or through the www.3rdID.Homestead.com website if you want to learn more about what we do. Fantastic, Thanks Will, as I said in my message to you, I was sure that this isolated 'engagement' was not in line with the way Living History groups see the world and I appreciate your stopping by and saying hello. With your permission I am going to share the link to the 3rd ID website so that members here can see how things are done in your barracks.....and that sweet Tiger tank I have been trying to find for awhile!! Again, thanks for your words and this incident now behind us, I look forward to developing a inter-hobby friendship because I believe that both activities can learn loads from each other and enjoy each other's unique perspectives and experiences! Soldiers, here is the 3rdID site, a great resource for impression photos and information- and...a Tiger Tank!! (Well actually a modded Russian tank, but dang! looks good!) Check them out. 3rdid.homestead.com/Slainte! -Guinness (Chris Alvarez)

Ok, I know this isn't my spot, and American(what ever) can cap on me all he wants.. but something DOES have to be said... You guys are portraying an ACTUAL Unit that was the first to land in Africa, fought in Normandy just after D-Day, fought in the Ardennes, fought in the Bulge, on the Rhine, and in Germany itself... If you guys are going to dress like that, may I suggest that you guys at least take off your patches, and go "slick sleeved" for your events? i11.photobucket.com/albums/a173/corywalker/aiming.jpgThat's what you guys should be looking like, if you're wanting to portray units who fought in WWII accurately, if not for me, or Jun, or this post.. Do it for the veterans guys, honestly... My 2 and 1/2 cents -C
