The Germans used the best tactics, the best equipment and held out against unbelievable odds. They took over almost all of Europe and had great victories against the British, then the US came and they were out numbered severely but it still was years before they were defeated. I think if the numbers were even the Germans could of quickly defeated the Allies.

The Ami's. Not a big fan of the Germans...I get that not all of them were "bad guys" but when one bad egg kills 11 Million people because of who they are, it spoils the lot.

You have to respect the Russians. They were attacked (illegally, becuase of the treaty between them and the Jerries in the armistace) and lost 27.6 million people. Plus, 9/10 of them were peasants (and 'kulaks') before the war. They deserved Berlin, nobody else did. I also like their uniforms and accents a lot.

My first thought was duh.. US. But with a little more thought I hate saying this, but I have to say Germans. They were a tiny little nation and they kicked the crap out of Europe. The withstood the US and USSR pounding them for quite a while. There tactics and armies were top notch. They had awesome tanks, beautiful ships, the U-boats almost killed England, there aircraft were great (first jet fighter). The only reason we beat them is we had more to throw into the fight.

They still knew about Jewish prejudice, everybody. The Werhmacht was a wonderful army but Hitler interfered too much. But remember we had Patton on our side ;D. My opinion of why Germany lost the war is that Hitler did too many dumb mistakes, like Stalingrad and Battle of Britain.
The Germans still killed millions of people, so that shouldn't mean anything.

American Army--
I often hear how "it took so many years for the Americans and British to defeat the Germans". The fact of the matter is that it was a matter of mobilization. The American forces combined (Army, USAAF, Navy) were a real juggernaut. The question would be a bit closer had the Germans not attacked the Russians, but they made that foolish move. Considering the Americans fought a 2 front war and ultimately gained a full measure of victory on both, I have to go with them.

But we Americans had the luxury of not having the war fought on our land. Almost every other nation had the war fought in their backyard. I believe that if the Germans or Japanese came on to Continental America, we would have lost. Didn't the Japanese inavde Alaska?

I believe that if the Germans or Japanese came on to Continental America, we would have lost. Didn't the Japanese inavde Alaska? I doubt we would have lost. The US probably had more industrial strength and able bodied men then the axis powers combined. On top of this, the Germans still had to deal with the Russians, and the Japanese the Chinese. Also, the Japanese invaded a few of the Aleutian Islands, no where near a full scale invasion though. If I am correct it was the only United States soil conquered by a foreign enemy since the War of 1812.

Actually the conventional sort of wisdom pushes for the opposite: when in a home defense mode, armies tend to be more familiar with their own turf and will take more desperate and dangerous defensive measures. It also allows for a faster ability to bring materials and soldiers to the front. It does turn into a negative once your industry is destroyed or captured though.

I personally cant decide as to which army I like best. Each had obstacles to overcome and each had there own advantages. I think the one I would choose (I didn't vote) would bee the Polish forces because they fought everywhere and were sold out by our (American) weak willed president....The jerk. Click

launching a invasion would be near impossible. In order to get across the Atlantic they would need a large seaborne force and that forces transport boats would be highly venerable to sub attack and other forms of sea attack like destroyers and carrier based planes. We could have stopped the force before it even reached our shores.

I can't really decide , members of my family fought for the Italians and Germans during the war , and my wife's family fought for the US. I re-enact as a German , US , and Italian soldiers , so it's hard for me to decide on this one.

The Japanese did invade Alaska , not mainland Alaska but 2 islands , Attu and Kiska, which are part of the Aleutian chain of islands off the coast of Alaska . The Japanese plan was to use this Islands as forward air bases to attack the West Coast , but the conditions in the islands where horrible and the troops there where basically abandoned there.

That's what I thought. It's hard to decide because most of the European nations had it really tough. Also, I do know that fighting in the defender's country would make them more fanatic, and familiar with the land, at the cost of the opposition actually invading the country. Once they have a hold on the nation, it'll be hard to push them back excepting a fanatic city (Stalingrad). The opposition would be within air range of all the factories that make weapons, and can attack them almost at will. I still say the Russians because they suffered the most, fought the hardest, and had the hardest fight. 27.6 million killed, like 2/3 of the largest country taken over, and they had retake it. Hats off to them.

The Germans actually had a plan to invade the US , not by way of the Atlantic but by land coming up from South America , once they had taken control of Panama and the Canal Zone , the US Naval Forces would have been split in 2 , off course this all counted on the complete destruction of British Forces and the control of the British Islands , once that was done , the Germans would have gone into full production of their Aircraft Carriers and next Generation of U-Boats. Big dreams for a country with limited man power and resources.

The Polish didn't have the best arms, nor tactics.
But fought just as hard as any other army.
Long Live Poland.
