For your M14 a brown rather than black handguard would be more common for the time. There were some black handguards around but back then most were a sort of expresso brown finish.
I have tons of spare simulated wood lower stocks and did up a bunch of brown handguards for those folks who had green or black M14s and needed to make them look more correct.

Marui and CAW make wood stocks. You can also pick them up at gun shows. That way you could beat it up and make it more realistic. But I also have the espresso brown paint from my bake treatment on thine MP40 so all would help me out.

The Marui and CAW actual wood stocks have been sold out for about three years now every where I've looked (If you know otherwise let me know!) An actual stock would be a nightmare to hollow out to facilitate the motor and battery but would be very cool to do. The paint you had for the MP40 bakelight project would be perfect for the heat shield. Artifical aging on the plastic stock as spelled out in the thread really enhances the look of any of the simulated woods and is well worth the minimal effort required.

Evike? ?? Arrrrgh. I ordered one but doubt it will actually be in stock as they continually show up as available and never seem to be. I've ordered this specific stock in the past and was actually fairly pleased with it. It required some dremel work in order to fit and the stain was a Gawd awful orange shade but once sanded down and refinished they looked pretty good actually.

G&G sells VN style M-14's with wood stocks. But the damn battery compartment is BARELY big enough for the large battery its supposed to hold..

The G&G Walnut stock is actually very nice. It's common with all the wood stock that they have little room for the batteries. I get frustrated with 90% of the airsoft guns out there (plastic or wood) when it comes to batteries as they all seem designed to put up a fight or pinch wires when you're installing or pulling out batteries. I'd rather have tons of room and feel compelled to stick in a "Kill rag" to pad the battery and keep it quiet, beside it insulates the battery in the cold.

The cheap batteries that come with most Chinese AEGs are worth little more than "Free" I highly recommend you take great care in the initial and subsequent charges of them and at some point upgrade to a quality battery and charger system. The battery that comes with the gun should quickly be relegated to a backup.
The most common problems these days with the Chinese AEGs are battery and poor charge related. With quality batteries properly charged they work wonderfully.

I heard the first tentative Namsoft event of the season will be in April in Louisianna. (Perfect location for Namsofting. It would be put on by Black Company if they decide to go ahead with it. They do a great job on their events.

I was asked to help with the 3rd iteration of Masher White Wing in Louisianna and am really looking forward to it. Their site is nostaligic to put it mildly and really well set up for a Nam event. (Bamboo huts etc.) They have wonderful tentage, PRC 77s and other terrific props and a great staff to facilitate it all.
I definitely fly down for it from Seattle. Gonna be great!

That's great news. This should be a great kick off to the Nam soft season There were several key areas within the venue that never even were used. The village with the bamboo huts only got visited briefly by one element of one patrol. I still love the sound of the "Choppers" flying overhead. It would be cool if we could use the water feature somehow.

Hey 2nd Bat, When it comes to the heatsheild of the M14, was it more common to see an espresso shaded one or a flat black one? Although, I'm sure it really doesn't matter I thought I would ask for good measure. Most of the pictures I find are in black and white or very faded with the rifle in the background or obscured foreground.

Technical question here.I bought a G&G M-14 Veteran all wood M-14. It's SUPPOSED to take a large battery. BUT,every large bat I put in there ias so tight,it gets stuck. Is this a common problem with G&G guns?

In Vietnam most of the fielded M14s featured brown handguards and I remember there was a sort of elitest coolness about the black ones simply because they were less prevalent. My favorite were the ventilated ones which were always brown. The original M14s that were issued had Walnut heat shields although I never saw any that way.
If anyone has an M14 and needs spare magazines let me know. I have a hundred or so of them. Obviously I'd sell them cheap.

Sweet, yea what I did was I took my M14 stock and spray painted it black for a base, than an Espresso Brown to emulate walnut. Than i took a screw driver and did a few scratches here and there and went over that with a walnut wood finish. It filled the cuts and gave depth to the stock. Looks really nice I was really pleased. Than for the hand guard I used the same base and espresso brown but instead of wood finish I used a clear gloss coat. Came out looking like this.. To say the least, I was very happy.

For the 67-69 which of the uniforms should I use 1st, 2nd or 3rd pattern?
Also which if the rucksacks would be apropraite for US amry the same period, Tropical rucksack. or Lightweight Rucksack?

The Tropical Combat Uniform 3rd Pattern came into service in 1966 so for the time frame you are looking at then the 3rd Pattern works best for you if you are doing Army , Marines would have some 1st and 2nd Patterns still in use then. Lightweight Ruck works for the time period as well , the Tropical ruck comes into service in 1968 with LRRPs being the ones who use them first.

Ok, the total is £781 for Complete Army impression, I decided to go for the tropical rucksack, as it was half the price for light weight rucksack, and I can use to fir LRRP to.
Everything will be original and dated exept for my boots and towel. For some reason the only thing I could not find was rubberband for the helmet.
Now to get the money.

The Camouflage Band can be one from the '80s , just remove the Cat's Eyes from it.
