I've read that either RSOV or Gunner is pricing the extra shells at £1.49 (That's is in that British funny money ) So $3 bucks a round seems a bit high Also, I don't have a chrono, but it did not pierce the bottom of a pop can at 6 inches. Anyway, I'll get back to review writing.... ;D Thats a hell of a lot cheaper than what Marushin sold their shells at.

"Reports have indicated that alarming number of grown up men from the age of 20 to 50 have serious complications from lead poisoning due to paint used in certain Chinese made toys"
Just think what troop acceptance for "Matty Mattels" would be if they were introduced now, not 40 years ago..

hm...maybe along with all these FPS tests, and comparisons, someone should do a little lead test...never know anymore

yeah, I kinda got a little flamed because I was saying the same thing on Arnies "Every day we read reports of products coming out of China containing Lead....why would we think for a second that Airsoft toys would be any different" They all said "Well if we don't lick the gun we'll be fine" Valtteri, where was your quote from BTW? although we are getting a bit off topic @ 2ndBat- I just received it this morning, all I have had time to do is unpack it, take some pictures, shoot it real quick and start the review-

If you need a chrono &/or a known distance range they're still here, barring a blizzard.

Everyone is of course anxious for your review as everything so far has been second or third hand. If you're worried about lead content you should probably be worried about choking hazards on small parts. Come on folks last I checked most of us were beyond the toddler stage where everyu toy ends up in the mouth.
The last Airsoft gun I slobbered over was my Inokatsu M-60 and Troyluckinbills BAR. I have one of these ordered and hope to get it soon. If the firepower sucks I'll squeaze a VSR 10 clone internals in it. (I'll probably do that anyway)

Thats what I want to do. Over the summer I may buy one and stick my TM VSR-10 internals into it, even if the gun has great FPS Im still not too much of a fan of the shells.

If you go onto the UK reenactment forum the member called rangercamp has a thread going called "My airsoft k98". If he's the guy behind DBoy's then we might be able to persuade him to produce stripper clips, extra shells... Just a thought.

You really aren't gonna need all your pouches full of airsoft shells. With my really inaccurate APS-2 "Kar98K" that hasn't got sights (well, it looks like it does, but you just can't use them) I've never had to change the mag and at one point I stopped carrying the spare with me. With this one you'll be firing even slower, as you have to catch each shell with your other hand (and probably go as far as stuffing it into your pocket before refiring) which means you won't be using that much ammo. Granted, 20 shells, which I consider a decent amount, because some will be lost, does almost double the cost of the gun, but still it's pretty cheap. Get deact ammo if you wanna carry something.. You probably can cycle them through the gun if you want, I could with my Marushin Oh and perhaps RSOV is the only one who's got spare shells for the first batch, and being a good capitalist with clear understanding of supply and demand, they price them accordingly. GnG said they did not get shells yet (but they will sometime) and Gunner still hasn't answered, and probably will not, because he has nothing positive to say.

I recieved mine last night and, like Guinness, am up to my ankles in snow. When I tried shooting at targets in the back yard (35 and 45 yards) I couldn't see any hit, but I also couldn't see the BBs against the snow, so I couldn't tell where they were going. I'm going to wait for the thaw that they say we're going to get this weekend and try again. Other than that my impressions follow Guinness's and so far I feel I've goten a good bang for my buck. A thought for those concerned about ammo. On superficial examination it appears that the rounds are the same dimensions as the original 7.92x57. If this is truely the case it might be possible to home make your own rounds. If you look at the fake round it is essentially a casing with a slightly smaller psuedo bullet in it. think a smaller tube, with a slightly smaller tube running through the whole thing. I'm going out X mas shopping tomorrow and I'll stop in the local big box sporting place and see if I can pick up some Mauser brass. It may be a waste of time, but it may also be worthwhile.

Gunner airsoft is now advertising the spare shells for $2.50 each, and is selling them as singles. Things are looking up. I can agree with the poster above that in a game with few other bolt action guns you don't shoot much. But that will not be the case as more period correct guns start hitting the market. In the 4 games that I have carried my custom mauser, I have never had a CHANCE to reload. I spend most of my time walking back to the respawn. Trying to use bolt actions against 400 fps BB hoses just plain sucks. BUT, if used in a pure WWII game, then I could reasonably expect (hope) to go through a few dozen rounds and will be wanting those extra shells.

i've picked up some brass and there appears that "rolling your own" as it were is a possibility. I'm going to do a little more work and if it appears that there is any chance of this working I'll start a seperate thread under technical.

It would be very nice to be able to cycle the bolt and not have to worry about where the shell has gone, as you made it for cents in your garage.

After the news they are made of lead, and handling one the other day I'm thinking about dropping a VSR10 clone into the De-boys K98.

You just drop it in, push it in with the tip of your finger and it will be held in place by a set of "O" rings the same diamiter of the BB.

I personally don't see how anybody could consider this a viable airsoft rifle. My custom springer is great, but I consistently shoot at least 60 or so rounds out of it per game. The shells just make it completely unpractical. If somebody can figure out a way to cheaply convert this to a springer, I'm game. Unless that happens I'd save your money.

Well, we all play differently. With my custom 98K I have never changed the mag in-game, that means I've always shot well under 25bbs. I've scored perhaps two or three kills per about 10 deaths though, but still, I enjoyed the crawling and waiting a lot.
