My M40 tunic is also a bit big in some areas. When you say "hot wash and dry" you mean washing it in hot water? I thought getting wool wet ruins it?

No, getting it wet will not ruin it, it will shrink it. Even better is run it through a hot water wash and when it is finished put it on while it is still wet and wear till its dry. Here is a photo of our dear Fusilier (Bob) showing proper fit of an M43 patterned HBT tunic. Notice the shortened sleeves and the good tight mid section, notice a bit of "pull" on the buttons? That is how tight it should be worn. Here is an excellent article on the fit of a German Field blouse: www.lostbattalions.com/german33-45/ww2blusefit/fit33-45.html

max1337, I like it! Whose boot are you wearing, they look nice.
And a side question, did the W-SS issue A-frame? I have heard a million times that no they didnt, but never researched it.

Max, I like it. Couple suggestions: Wear your belt higher, around your navel and pull up your pants they are a little too baggy. Blacken your boots as well, although the SS got the order to stop blackening their boots in 44(aug?) I have yet so see a photo of an SS trooper with brown boots. Ditch the breadbag strap if your cover is a type 2, however I have seen this done with type 1 covers. And all the camo is correct, to an extent. You are good for what you are portraying, 1.SS
Vii_Cii, I couldnt possibly understand why they wouldnt be issued them? Some wear them in our reenacting unit but thats not saying much. Ill look into it.

thanks! actually I have 2 pairs of low boots, one is blackened for earlier "late" impression, and the brown one for really late impression.
boots are from a cobbler in germany who hang made them for me.

Adler, Great pics! One question tho, did Fallshirmjaeger actually use Italian jump smocks rather than the splinter camo?

Another thing to remember is that Fallschirmjager and Paracadutista units worked , fought and trained together on many occasions , Paracadutista's where sometimes even trained at Fallschirmjager schools and you can find many photos of Parcadutista's wearing Splinter smocks and Luftwaffe belts and buckles.

I'm not calling you a liar, just never seen it in all the FJ books I have. I know they wore Italian camo pants, but NEVER saw a Wartime pic of a German wearing and Italian camo smock. Not for nuthin' ,I think Italian WW2 camo was awful! I'll take splinter B over that any day.

German Splinter is a variation of Telo Mimatico M29 by the way , the Germans where inspired by it.

I think there is a lesson here for all of us- Jim Croce even wrote a song about it... "Don't tug on Superman's cape, don't spit into the wind, don't pull the mask from the old Lone Ranger and..." Don't ever, EVER challenge Adler to produce pics of anything... best to just take his word for it ;-) and now, the disclaimers from our Lawyers... >It's a joke Fusilier >Jim Croce is a singer from the 70's, tragically killed before his time in a plane crash...

Here I am last game, doesn't give you a nice impression though as it only shows the front and I'm wearing a tempt. scope Not to mention you failed at installing your insignia. Good Job, herr rttf.

Sorry about having posted on the picture thread...my question on Adler's post should go here:
Hey Adler,
Good you mentioned the tacticool carry. There are so few pictures of this gun i'm now wondering if there was a "typical" way to carry it. strangest i've seen is with the barrel sitting on the shoulder; the soldiers hand holding it down and the rest of the gun from the mag to the stock hanging in the air.

The way you describe is a normal way for German troops of the time to carry the MGs . The most common i have seen in pics is this way the ready position , when contact is to be expected This is a more relaxed way to carry it , but still ready to fire in case of enemy contact There are also couple of ways to carry it on the sling over the shoulder And also this way , this guys are in a Tank hunting squad

Great pics Adler, I cant say i've ever seen any of them, except the uber equipped anti tank squad shot. Show that to the guys who say people can't wear M36's and jackboots late war. I shall endeavour to carry the Sturmgewehr in the right fashion at tomorrow's game. BTW, the first picture, is that in the ardennes by any chance? The guy on the left with the loosely rolled zeltbahn reminds me of the dot 44 clad squad leader in the poteau series of photos.

Yes the first photo is from the Ardennes Offensive , if you look at the soldier closer to the camera you'll notice a US G.P ammo bag on his back.

Still got quite a ways to go, but it's a start. I would wear the chinstrap down, around your chin. And I would get a smock for SS, but I'm sure that's probably on your list. Other than that, looking good.

I still have a long list of things that need to be bought, smock is definitely on it. Eventually I hope to get everything

About the camo smock I don't think its really necessary, camo is a little over done even with the SS. Although the SS got a lot more camo stuff then the Heer ,not all of them got issued camouflage. Anyways nice job so far, is that a tanaka Kar98 btw?
