If you got some desert in your neighborhood, you could do north africa/arabian campaign, not need for trenches.

Just slowly start getting members. Have a battle from time to time to keep interest up. The battles don't have to be all that realistic just to keep everyone together. Eventually once you have enough people you can get a field and start heightening authenticity standards. Making an interesting webpage with pictures always helps attract more people.

just so ya know the early part of ww1 in the late summer to fall of 1914 was totaly mobile and no trenches untill the german advance came to a halt just about 40km north of paris then for the next 3 years it was trench warfare so you could do early war ww1 with no trenches no problom

No American Impressions then if early war. And will whoever is doing German have pickelhaubes? Will the French have the blue overcoats and red pants? WW1 in reenacting is fun,but even there we don't do early war.

We don't need to shell out +1000 plus on a WW1 airsoft just to be authentic, atleast the uniform could be something in the terms of WW2 ammo pouches and khaki shirts. This may not be the most authentic but this would work better for people who don't know a thing about WW1. Maybe WW1 could be big but you have to get it started first. But the thing is, shooting in trenches all day is going to be boring. Boring game = no players no players =

You don't just have to sit in trenches all day.

I'm all for early WW1, and WW2. I do 1939 Polish, and 1940 French, and can also do early War German infantry and fallschirmjager, as well as early Soviet. But not everybody can do it correctly! Early WW2 reenacting events are just now starting to get popular. WW1 never will, due to the fact you have American troops, and everyone on both sides has a post 1915 kit. Sure a couple units,on both sides CAN do 1914 impressions, but don't. The thing is,if you want to do it right, it is VERY expensive. And given the age of a lot on this forum, most cannot afford to lay out tons of cash for something they're gonna do once or twice a year. I myself am selling my WW1 Doughboy kit, because I just don't have the time anymore.

Doing the battle of Belleau Wood wouldn't involve setting up trenches. You'd need a forest with a series of machinegun nests.

I like the idea, there was another WW1 airsoft forum a few years ago but it ended up dead in the water. The trench aspect could make an interesting game, a ploughed field with a couple of opposing trenches maybe 25m apart, heavy machine guns, snipers, night time trench raids with lots of grenades, revolvers, broomhandle Mausers and lugers. Parachute flares and airsoft mines in no mans land. How about some timed pyro in no mans land to get the atmosphere. The kit doesn`t have to be authentic to start out with, Brit no.2 dress could pass for ww1 battledress. Get some postwar German tunics and unstitch the top pockets.

Yeah it would be pretty cool, if it worked out right. We might be able to incorporate tanks!

theres an in depth series of videos about a scaled tank that could be ridden in, if i ever hit the lottery... anyway slick mines in ww1 were complicated, you had to tunnel under the enemy trenches, place tons of dynamite crawl back to your trench and detonate, if i get this set up right, please if you havent already, register on the forums ww1aa.proboards.com

We just did WW2 scenarios bcuz nobody had ww1 impressions, but the fighting was basically the same style. We dug a series of trenches, and it was quite fun! Sitting in a trench afraid to poke ur head up adds a new aspect to the game. Then when ur out of ammo the pistol charge made it even more epic
I suggest trying it at an airsoft game. Its a nice change of pace

If someone had access to an old Minuteman missile site, or some similar concrete bunker complex, you could re-enact the fighting over Fort Douamont (sp?) during the Battle of Verdun. The Germans managed to break into one of the French fortresses and eventually captured it after a nasty little corridor by corridor battle with the French defenders.
Now, who's going to be the first to build an Airsoft Chauchat light machinegun? And will it be designed to jam on every third shot ;D (that's actually a cheap shot. The Chauchat was not really as bad as it's reputation makes it out to be).

I don`t think WW1 is going to be anywhere near as popular as WW2 for various reasons. The spray and pray beloved of younger players is missing except for static heavy MGs. There is a view that WW1=trenches, not always so. Its also limited to a large part to bolt action rifles and grenades, this doesn`t appeal to a lot of people. There`s also the fact that a lot of players base their impression or get their ideas for WW2 from films or PC games. Given that there are fewer WW1 films and hardly any WW1 PC games, most information for this period will have to come from reading articles either from books or the net....something I`ve found a lot of people aren`t willing to do.

For now until some growth, just having the bolt actions is good enough. Dreams of trench raids and picking through the barbed wire at night is cool enough. I make some of the heavy MG's for airsoft and I am adding new ones all the time. So there here and ready when needed. But lets get started first. Were small right now, when the numbers grow the then it will be proportional.
