I would like to start this thread with gratitude for a number of people.
I would like to thank Rapture for putting this tremendous event together. I loved the scenarios and enjoyed reenacting them. Nice job!
I would like to thank Joe for his support and great positive spirit. We need more people like you in this world Joe.
I would like to thank Steve for the long drive from Virginia for only one day. I understand what it is like to get old and get injuries. kudos on you for coming this far and we appreciate your support.
I would like to thank Dunkin Donuts for supplying the free donuts and muffins for both days. Everyone much appreciated them.
I would like to thank the powers that be for allowing me to have a father and son experience for an event that is truly physical. It is truly an honor to be able to have a full weekend with a teenager that will forsake a homecoming night with his girl friend to spend it with his old man for 3 days in night freezing temperatures in a tent.
I would like to thank all those that showed up and exhibited great sportsmanship participating in all aspects of the event whether it be setting up or fighting. Without you, we would not be able to have these reenactments.
Finally I would like to thank my wife for putting up with me and the mess I caused in the house building all these props these past two months. Honey you are a sweet pea and I cherish your support of this teenager in an old man's body.
Let the AAR's begin!

At first I was not going to dignify Burt’s post with a response but Ray’s, personal attacks do deserve some kind of minimal response.
1) From the beginning everyone knew that the German camp would be a main focus of Partisan attacks both during the day and at night. 2) Oil Lanterns were on at the beginning of dusk just before the night fighting and through the battle. At no time did Ray or Josh express any concern over this until the end of the battle after their tent was hit. 3) At some point in the evening both Ray and Josh left to the store to purchase supplies and upon their return in the middle of battle you both went into your tent turned on your oil lamps and never came back out. It was rumored by multiple people that you both were drinking in your tent. 4) The only tent that had lit oil lamps inside was your tent. No other tents had any oil lamps lit or unlit inside them. 5) At some point several hours into the night fight, someone shot at your tent and extreme vulgarity and threats came out from one of you. The anger and loudness you expressed caused many more people to think you both were drinking. 6) Ray, not since high school has any one stooped so low as to personal name calling. Even my 15 year old son could not believe that kind of immaturity.
While we welcomed your attendance at this event and really looked forward to your participation and contributions, I personally believe this whole matter could have been handled differently. Had either of you came to any of us before the battle or during the battle and expressed any concern over oil lamps being a danger in the cross fire, we would have gladly respected your concerns and removed them immediately. Instead you both chose to lock yourself inside your tent with everyone wondering why neither of you would participate in the battle and then angrily left the event after the battle. Had you communicated better with us before the fact instead of after, I believe this incident could have been avoided and you both could have had a much better experience.

Alright gents, we are just a few days away. Weather looks fantastic, mostly in the upper 50's maybe even 60. Just the kind of weather us guys in wool tunics love.
A couple of points I wanted to mention. If any one has a girl friend, wife, friend, relative or any other kind of acquaintance that may not want to partake in the skirmishes but may want to come as a camera person. Would be nice if we had a dedicated camera and video person to record throughout the two days. If any of you know of such a person that would be interested please PM me.
A group of us will be arriving Friday afternoon to set up the German camp, barbed wire, mines and so forth. We will be camping there for the night. If anyone else wants to come Friday and camp, you are welcome. Owners of GZ airsoft have given the go ahead.
As mentioned before, if you have a period tent you are welcome to pitch it either in the German or Russian camp. If you have a modern tent you can pitch it in the parking area. If you do not have a tent you can either sleep in one of the buildings in the village or we will be providing a few extra modern tents in the parking area that you can use. All you need to bring is a wool blanket or sleeping bag. While the day time temperatures will be perfect, the nighttime temperatures will get to freezing so make sure you have enough to keep you warm at night.
We will have several camp fires throughout the German and Russian camp. If you all could bring a couple of logs each that would help greatly in keeping these fires going most of the night. If you do not have any logs, one of those 5 packs from the grocery store would be perfect.
Remember to fill out and bring your waiver form. It can be found at docs.google.com/viewer?a=v&pid=explorer&chrome=true&srcid=0By-0EWnSiqqIZGI0ZDQzNGItODRiZS00OGY4LWE0OGEtNjE0NGE1YjdjNDdi&hl=en_US If you forget to bring it, one will be provided to you for a nominal nuisance charge
All in all, everything is shaping up quite nicely, should turn out to be a great event. See you all shortly!

Great News! Berlin has sent us a new supply of flares to help root out the partisan element at night. These are the latest models that illuminate twice as far and are sure to brighten up the entire woods surrounding the German camp. This will help in our efforts to squash these insurgent groups.
Your stay at Osten Lager shall be peaceful while you rest and refit away from the front lines. However we have received reports of supply lines being destroyed by partisan actions in the area and headquarters has ordered that we find and destroy any partisans in the vicinity. These actions should be minimal at best and should not impact your well deserved rest.
These new flares shall make your job that much easier finding the enemy at night.

Fresh from the front. It has come to the attention of the Oberkommando der Wehrmacht that partisan action has been increasing in the area of Osten Lager. We want your leave away from the front to be as pleasant as possible but it is possible these partisans may try and ruin your well deserved rest. To help protect the German camp a search light has been made available for our use.
Since the partisans will only dare to fight at night, our search light should make them quite visible from kilometers away. Be grateful that the fatherland is looking out for your well being. Your stay at Osten Lager should be uneventful especially with all the defenses at our disposal.
Remember, if you want to be granted leave to Osten Lager that you must register your name by sending a PM to Rapture. Failure to do so will make you ineligible for your rest away from the front lines.

Achtung! Alright soldiers. We are 8 days away from this event. We just sampled the live broadcast radio and music and it sounds delightful. I can just imagine listening to this period sound track with live radio narratives and then experiencing gunfire and fighting in the middle of it. Alas, it appears there will be no fighting as NO one appears to want to take on the great army of the Reich. Ya you know who you are. The 101th airborne, who comes for Western front events but will not even attempt to help out the Russian comrades by joining their forces. How about the rest of you who have been eerily silent. Too cowardly to come and fight. There are many familiar names who have not steped up to the plate. You guys are either too scared to come or are too old to partake, either way, shame on you. Looks like the German army will overwhelm any Rooskie partisan action, expect it to be like taking candy from a baby as we enjoy great food, great music, and maybe even a great pig-roast.
You only live once, life is too short, live it to its fullest, excuses are just excuses, you want to make something happen then just do it, start living and step up to the plate and do what you really live for. If you cannot make it we do not want to hear why, if you are considering making it then get off your duff and get your registration in, if you do not show up, you are just another statistic in the grand scheme of things. Make a difference in this life and stop making excuses, you will be a better person for it and your peers will think better of you.

As Brandon mentioned, the field is bought and paid for the entire 2 days. Whether 5 people show up or 500 we WILL be having this reenactment.
Brandon has planned lots of cool scenarios that will seamlessly flow into each other to appear as one unified experience throughout the 2 days. While I cannot say how the Russian side is set up I can post what the German side will consist of.
First and foremost, this event will have props and scenarios like none seen before. The German camp will be the first German camp ever held in the NE area that is true to nature and 100% authentic. We have several large and small period tents that will encompass the bulk of the camp area along with camp fires, a command headquarters building with a roof, and lots of period accessories.
This is designed to show the true look and feel of a WW2 German camp on the field. We are going to make sure no modern looking materials are anywhere near the camp. This means no plastic tarps, plywood or other non period items in the vicinity. Below is just a sample of some of the tents that will be present.
In addition we will have for the first time, mines! Lots and lots of mines!
Yes there are twice as many in the other room but we could not fit them all in the picture. So you do the count. We will have a huge minefield surrounding the camp that will scare the daylights out of anyone who dares come near. Walk on one of these babies and you will never want to come near us again. This mine field will be filled with German minefield signs as well as props of past minefield casualties. Of course, we may not put all the mines in the minefield
We will also have Barbed wire surrounding the camp. Over 200 feet of barbed wire will seal the perimeter. Try to come through and you will be minced meat.
This will be set up to protect the Germans from any partisans trying to enter the camp. That is of course if they get through the mine field with all their limbs.
The camp will be lit with many kerosene lamps throughout (no modern flashlights allowed) and at least two camp fires for warmth and cooking.
We will have period tables and crates throughout the camp area as well as music. Yes I said music. We will have live radio broadcast of WW2 German music and commentary throughout the event. This will be piped into the camp and will be on all day. This will include period marching music, songs from Lili Marleen as well as recordings of live radio broadcasts all in German.
There will also be a 16 foot flag pole in the center of camp where the Germans will fly their patriotic battle flag.
In addition we will have bunkers and trenches that will be manned by machine gunners with MG42’s and a cannon. A firing cannon that is so loud that the mere sound of it will scare any partisan willing to come near the German camp to cause havoc.
Of course we will have the usual grenades, trenches and Panzerfaust. Except this time the Panzerfaust has been retrofitted to fire a shower of BBS in the air only to fall indiscriminately on the enemy.
This base will be so realistic and so fortified that no one in hell is going to get near it without taking a mouth full of German might. As a matter of fact, we will be so protected that we will be enjoying ourselves with merry libations, great food and lots of women as the partisans get blown up around us.
This camp will be as true as you can get to a German WW2 camp and every attention to detail will be to the highest standard. It is our goal this time to make sure you are totally immersed in the true look and feel of a WW2 reenactment as modern items will be at a minimum if not totally eliminated and hidden.
The German camp will have cooking stations that will enable you to cook your food if you need to as well as warm up during the cold night. In addition, there will be a bar in the Village that will be stocked with beverages that you can consume at any time. We cannot guarantee that girls will frequent the bar but you never know who may show up. While the bar will be a place where Germans and Russians can commingle, it is also a place where you might be having a drink along side a partisan and never know it.
This is going to be the event of all events and we are supplying lots and lots of props to enhance the whole experience. This is just a taste of what we will be doing. There is a lot more that if discussed in these forums will give the enemy an advantage. The rest will be on a need to know basis and only shared with soldiers of the great Reich. Remember, register by the 13th to get the discount and the extra ration of food.
For those bringing tents. If you have a period tent it will be allowed in the German camp. If it is a modern tent it will be placed in the parking area along with the other modern tents. If you have no tent at all, we will be providing shelter both in the camp and in the parking area. Just make sure and bring a wool blanket to keep you warm.
Last but not least. If you are going to show up and have not registered, get your name in ASAP. If you are not going to show up but are thinking of it, you will be missing a truly unique experience with props and accessories never seen before in a WW2 reenactment. You may want to reconsider and come to experience this unique event, you will not be disappointed.
That is it for tonight, be well and be safe, Auf Wiedersehen.

I can stay all day Saturday but I'm not sure about Sunday, it's my grandma's 80th birthday... Would I still have to pay for both? We are going to have lots of night fighting till 11PM. You may not want to miss that part. Why don't you spend the night and then leave sometime in the morning of Sunday so that you can at least get some night fighting and maybe even some morning fighting. This way you get to do both, your grandmothers' birthday and some game play. Congrats on your grandmothers 80th that is a great age to reach, you should be proud

!Achtung Deutsche Soldaten! We are 2 weeks away from our well deserved leave to rest and refit away from the front lines. The OberKomando der Wehrmacht has issued the following orders!
We will be garrisoned in the village of Osten Lager. While this will be a period of great relaxation and R&R, all units will be required to maintain the utmost professionalism and uniform perfection. We will have several company inspections throughout our stay. Uniform standards shall be maintained at all times, any member not in conformity and not well groomed shall be disciplined. This is not the time to grow your beards! All weapons must be kept in full working order, cleaned and ready for action! It is our duty to make sure the Russian civilian population respects and fears the great army of the Reich. We must show at all times that we are fit and ready for battle and impress upon these people our will for supreme victory. Awards shall be given to those that maintain perfect uniform standards!
Where you will be staying
You have all fought well and hard on the front-lines and now it is time for some rewards. Osten Lager is a beautiful little anti communist town just outside the gates of our camp where you can enjoy some good food, libations and even be serenaded by those Babushka's who love men in uniform. Fraternization is not encouraged but will be tolerated. Remember at all times that we are here to garnish population support. So enjoy yourself but stay vigil at all times!
It is very important that all those who have been granted leave to Osten Lager send in their names to confirm they will accept the leave from the front-lines. All names must be posted via PM to Rapture. If your name is not on the list then you have not been registered and will not be granted leave. In addition, all who register prior to November 13th will be given an extra ration of food upon their arrival.
Russian resistance is expected to be minimal. It appears that most have cowered away from our position as they are too scared to fight. Intel indicates that most partisans have ran away like cowardly rats. So expect to have a nice and quiet stay here in beautiful Osten Lager.

[quote author=sfcmigs board=northeasternus thread=9119 post=109683 time=1320262752 Yes I purchased it from Peter at Tentsmiths. I'm also looking into getting his newest German tent that will be coming out this spring. You will not be disappointed, they do excellent quality work. I have one of their Mountain Troop tents and am very impressed with the attention to detail and quality workmanship. They usually have a 4 to 5 week production time. Do they know you need this by the 19th of November?

Speaking of Foxholes, does anyone on the German side have the capability to fire mortars or any type of nerf artillery on US forces occupying Bastonge and the surrounding areas? Ya, I think I can handle that part. While it is not a "mortar" per say, it is a Panzerfaust and it shoots well over the distance of a football field. Should be perfect for lobbing Nerf and BB type artillery into the evil Allied position over long distances

I rather attend a ww2 theme game than not attend a game at all. I hear you CDI and considering how our reenactment group has been performing lately with events I can see how these modern/period combo efforts are better than nothing. I do have great concern over the paint ball field however. We do not dry clean or clean our tunics so any kind of paint on them would be a problem. Again, I am by no means criticizing and would certainly welcome the opportunity to attend one of these events. I am just hoping that in the future the restrictions get tightened a little so that more reenactors might be willing to attend.

While I applaud the effort I have a few concerns about the RI event.
1) It appears that are allowing modern weapons (ie. M249, M240 ...) 2) Appears period gear is welcomed but not mandatory 3) Part of the play is on a Paintball field and I have heard that can really mess up your period uniforms
Would probably have attended if these 3 items had been tightened up.

Cryonics, how many will that sleep? If you do not need room for gear and all it will fit 6 cots in comfortably. If you want room for gear and room to move around, 4 cots is ideal. I plan on putting 4 cots to give us room for all our gear and walk around room.
