Come on guys, let's get some momentum going here. This thread has been awfully quiet since the posting of the new dates. It is still the same cool event that was planned before but just on a new date. There are lots of cool props and lots of cool scenarios. Let's not let this one slip by, get your registrations in and let's get some conversation going here. This is probably the last chance we have to hold an overnighter before the winter sets in. Surely we do not want to end the year without one more awesome reenactment. I will start by posting a picture of a recent Troop tent we purchased for our group. This is from Tentsmiths and they make excellent quality period tents. Should fit right in for this Eastern Front game and make Gerry proud Attachments:

What I'm also considering is a two day immersion. Not sure on that as the weather is a factor. Migs I like the two day immersion idea and think that early December would be perfect for that. January can have some pretty cold nights and days.

I have to agree. I remember last year when I started entering the WW2 events and inquired if I could bring my modern weapons. Fortunately Gerry gave me a resounding no and now after doing this for over a year I totally agree with that decision. I recently looked at a video of a group that did a WW2 reenactment during the same time we did in June. I was excited to look at it when I started seeing modern weapons and people wearing baseball caps. Needless to say I did not even bother to finish watching the video.
I understand that the bar for WW2 reenactment is set very high, but it also allows for a thoroughly immersive experience and I would not trade it for anything. So if you want to garnish the interest of guys like us you are going to have to make sure you set the rules and make sure modern equipment is not allowed or you will just end up with a bunch of modern airsofters pretending to play WW2.

I realize this is a late AAR but hopefully the enthusiasm exhibited by everybody is still there.
I have to say that this was by far the best event I have attended to date. It contained everything from realism, to intrigue, to downright scariness. I liked the fact that this was campaigned based and the flow of events just kept on continuing. It made for a great two days of excitement and planning. If I had one complaint it would be the fact that the Germans had to give in and let the tired Americans take over the beach front and the artillery hill. While I understand they had a much harder job in front of them and the sun was baking the hell out of them, I would have preferred instead that a “no respawn” order had been effected so that the Germans could have kept fighting till the last man standing. I think this would have been more gratifying to the Americans for having really won the battle and more gratifying for the Germans that would have kept fighting until really shot at and killed with no chance of revivement. Might be something to consider for future events where the order of battle is counterbalanced.
That said I will focus my AAR on the night time event the first night. My job was to protect the Artillery station and I felt quite safe behind our bunker emplacement on top of a hill. For about 20 minutes we just stared at total darkness until all of a sudden in the distance we could see sporadic white and red lights flicker towards us. The woods where deathly quiet, yet these lights kept coming closer and closer. Eventually we started hearing twigs cracking not only from the direction of the lights but from other dark areas in the woods. “Crap, they are coming for us” I thought, and trained my weapon in the direction of the lights and noises. The lights would come on for about 3 seconds then go off and a minute later would reappear in a different spot only closer to us. Was this friend or foe? No one knew for sure until we started hearing the infamous cricket clicks. First in front of us, then to our right then what appeared all around us. What an unnerving feeling it was, we knew they where out there, it felt like they were toying with our nerves as they engaged in a concert of cricket clicks that grew louder and louder. Finally we could take it no longer and threw a barrage of fire in their direction, grenades, cannons, everything we had. This lasted for about 2 minutes.... then silence again…… Did we kill them? no one really knew but this went on for several hours until we were finally called back to base.
Another fabulous experience was when we were tasked to do a patrol in the night. Gordak’s unit was to go first and we were to follow closely behind. We had had reports of a whole squad that got eliminated by some Allies and another squad that came under heavy fire, so needless to say nerves were on edge. We walked in the woods in total darkness only occasionally putting on lights to ensure we would not break our necks. About half way through I heard some noise in the woods. I whispered to my unit to halt and lay low. I crouched down and listened. After about a minute I whispered to one of my members if he heard anything. I got not response, I whispered again and discovered that I was alone. They had not heard me when I said to stop and continued on into the darkness. I was alone with no idea where the rest of the troops where. Then to my left I heard a cricket click only to be followed to my right by another cricket response and then a third and a fourth. “Holy crap”, I thought, “I am surrounded” . I sat there listening to the cricket concerto both in awe and in fear that I was about to get pummeled by a whole platoon of angry yanks. Then in the distance I saw a red light walk towards me, it was one of the Americans trying to make his way to the cricket sounds behind me. I crouched down and aimed my MP40 in his direction figuring that once he came upon me he would either be killed or I could make him surrender. As he got within 60 feet of me I heard him whisper, ”Flash” and then a voice no more than 15 feet from me responded “Thunder”. F#@%&%$@! There is a freaging American right next to me and he does not know I am here and I did not know he was there until now! What an adrenaline rush! I decided to wait until the red light met up with the yank next to me and then would lob a grenade at both of them and end this nightmare. No sooner does the red light come within 20 feet of me I hear at the top of the woods.... “fire!” followed by 10 machine guns blazing towards the two yanks. What a melody to my ears, I am not alone, the cavalry is waiting nearby and has just launched a massive attack close to my position. I partake with multiple grenade throws and MP40 fire for about 1 minute then……total silence. There was not a sound for what felt like an eternity when out of the blue a voice next to me says “don’t shoot… I surrender”. The last surving American was surrendering. We all came out of our hiding and promptly took him into custody. It was finally over, I was back with my unit and we all survived. The prisoner was escorted back to camp under heavy escort.
This was my first time doing night time and I must say it added a whole new sense of game play that is without a doubt exhilarating. I hope we do more in the future and do more overnighters as it extends the game play and allows those that live far to make the trip worthwhile.
All it all this was a fantastic reenactment, the blank fire guys were a huge addition and I hope they will consider joining us again for future campaigns. Kudos to all those that helped organize it, the memories will live on for a long time.

Just wanted to say what a fantastic event this was. Lots and lots of kudos to Joe for pulling this off in such a magnanimous way. Lots to tell about, but will be out of town starting tomorrow and will reserve my AAR when I return. Trying to upload a Youtube video of the beach invasion. Will hopefully post tomorrow morning before I leave. In the meantime here is the "Mexican standoff" Large version can be seen at host.activeworlds.com/jp/dday/p1030048s.jpg

I got actually got a hold of one of the polycarbonate ones, very nice indeed and a steal at $20. From looking at them you cannot tell they are not plastic. They are solid black so no need to worry about then fraying and showing some ugly orange underneath.
I think anyone that has an MP44 should get one of these as they are far superior than the stock orange MP40 muzzle nuts they ship with and the Poly is rock solid, a lot harder than the soft plastic that ship with the MP44's.
I will bring mine with me to Days of Days in case anyone wants to see and feel one.

Wow, I did not expect this much response. Glad to see you all liked it also. Being French I was able to understand and read their website and get more information on the location and type of event. Their website is ww2airsoft.fr/index.php and they seem quite active in the reenactment arena. The one from the video is the 3rd installment of a battle they recreate every year in September in Saissac, France. They are already planning Operation Cobra IV in the same location this year. The introduction of the video explains who they are and how they strive for 100% authenticity. He even goes on to say that once the people arrive and park they are all to enter the field in full 1944 gear with no modern items allowed. They seem to make multi-day events with large evening group dinners in the evenings. You can see one here In addition if you look at their "Albums" section you will see the amount of authentic props they have at their disposal. Check this out Looks like these guys are real serious and have quite a large following. At the Cobra III event they had over 150 people attend and the field at Saissac is 150 acres. I had to chuckle how the guys on the American side even tried to give orders in English with their French accents. Almost wants to make you purchase a ticket to France and join one of these Here are a couple more pics of the Cobra events just so that we can all drool. Finally if you want to watch them all they can be found at ww2airsoft.fr/phpBB2/album_cat.php?cat_id=18&sort_method=pic_view_count&sort_order=DESC&start=0

Seaborne is welcomed and encouraged to come Saturday, camp out and be ready for their landings sunday morning. If you are doing Seaborne and wish to arrive Sunday morning, you must do so by 0800 hours as the landings will begin no later than 0900 hours. What!!! You mean that after fighting all night against the Yanks, we are going to be met in the morning with a whole slew of fresh American troops!!! Not feeling too good about our chances. Come on Axis, start getting those registrations in, we are going to need all the support we can get. Many targets out there

Hi all, I am in need of an MP44 motor mount to re-fix an MP44 that I have. During an MG42 conversion I used the MP44 motor mount from my MP44 hoping that in time I could replace it but have had no luck in purchasing these online. If anyone has a broken MP44 or parts they would like to sell please PM me or post in this thread. Alternatively if you know where I could purchase the motor mount that would be greatly appreciated.

I like what I am hearing. What you guys are organizing sounds extremely well thought out and full of great surprises. For those of us that may not surf the entire ww2aa board, I was not aware there was a voting poll going on for the dates. Thanks for mentioning it. Just in case there are others out there that are just monitoring this thread please go to ww2aa.proboards.com/index.cgi?action=display&board=northeasternus&thread=8473&page=1 to cast your vote on the best dates. Sorry if this is redundant but I figured if I did not know maybe others might be in the same position

To Charlie November, The one thing that is essential to this event is attendance. We are hoping to have at least 20 Germans (in addition to the 15 Blank fire guys), 15 to 20 Airborne and at least 10 Seaborne Infantry. I've been receiving a lot of PM questions and positive signs that attendance will be good. But actual registrations could be higher. Now with all things considered, I'm really reaching out to everyone interested in this event to get in your registrations. If there are any issues that will cause you to pass on this event, please PM me and perhaps we can work something out. Point here Gentlemen is that I feel we all owe it to one another to know if we are going to have the numbers for this game. The only way that is going to happen is with everyone's cooperation. If you can not make this event any reason other than you just don't want to go, please PM me. Migs I am sure if we can make this a big multi day event that we can attract people from long distances. I remember last year when Piper did his multi day event at FGF and the guys from Wisconsin showed up, what a good group of people from far away. Would be great if they felt the desire to join this event also if it was impressive enough to entice them to make the long drive. It would seem to me that the longer the event duration the farther people would be willing to travel. I know the original ideas for this event of night lights, large speakers with sounds, howitzer cannons, props and other effects was very enticing and if we continue along this path we might be able to attract people from far away like Wisconsin and boost attendance. Immersive means the whole package, the battles, the living, the camping and the night life. If we can immerse people in the whole life style that our ancestors had to endure during these wars, I believe people would be more interested in joining these events from far away if the long travel is counterbalanced by a long event. One of the things I have noticed is that most of us are into the authenticity of the event. The Airsoft part is secondary. So while it is a lot of fun to go out there and fight against each other, it is also fun to set up authentic camps, headquarters and props to enjoy after the battles. I believe this is what made last years FGF event attract people from long distances with the realistic camping sites, night fires and so forth. I believe this June event could to be on the same track and could garnish great attendance with the same kind of immersive theme. Just my 2 cents and as always am willing to help out in anyway I can, just ask .

No Problem on the location change. Just wanted to bring something up about the last time we were there. The owners were very adamant about a problematic neighbor and that we were to stay very clear of his property lines. Just wondering if an all night fighting event might cause complaints from that and other neighbors with all the noise we will be making.
